All About Rice Protein

Rice is both a blessing and a curse, its high in proteins which is obviously a good thing, but in the same instance it is also high in carbohydrates. Usually this is not really a problem, as we need carbohydrates to give us a steady flow of energy throughout the day and more when we work out. However, when eaten in the wrong levels you may find yourself lacking the energy needed turning your protein into sugar (losing its effects to generate lean muscle) or you may take too much, leading to the production of fat. In order to help you make the right choices the best kinds of rice will be outlined. As a side note all mentions of carbohydrates, proteins or such like will made in relation to a 150 grams of uncooked rice valued (rice when cooked just contains water, but throws off the measurements).

White Rice

White rice in its non boiled raw form holds around 15 grams of protein to 170grams of carbohydrates, however when you actually boil the rice its values are lost quickly ending at 5.2 grams of protein and 62 grams of carbohydrates. If you decide that dry rice is for you (why you would I have no idea) then you should be warned that dry rice can lead to gas. For this reason I will always recommend that you eat boiled rice.

Brown Rice

In terms of the well talked about brown rice the values are significantly different. Uncooked you’re looking at 13 grams of protein to every 162 grams of carbohydrates. However, once boiled you actually end up with 5.2 grams of protein to every 64 grams of carbohydrates (but you do get fiber in brown rice).

What if I Cook My Rice

As a side note if you like to fry your rice white rice ends up with a gram less protein and 12 grams fewer carbohydrates so it’s your decision on which to choose.

Savory Rice

The less eaten form of rice, savory rice is actually fairly strong once cooked with 6 grams of protein to 52 grams of protein you’ll find it beats everything in protein and only comes second to fried rice by 2 grams.

Conclusion

In the interest of variety of your diet you can always switch between all the kinds of rice to get a feel of what you like with certain foods. Furthermore, if you hate rice then there’s also pasta (white and brown).
